Davante Adams injured ‘week to week’ as Raiders’ turmoil worsens

The Raiders were already mired in turmoil early in the season when star receiver Davante Adams sat out Thursday’s practice with a hamstring injury.

Adams was immediately ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Browns, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the six-time Pro Bowler is on a “week-to-week basis.”

The loss of Adams, who recorded at least 100 receptions in five of the last six NFL seasons, comes at a tumultuous time for Las Vegas coach Antonio Pierce. He reportedly considered a quarterback change after last week’s ugly 36-22 loss to the Panthers, but the Raiders are sticking with veteran Gardner Minshew rather than Aidan O’Connell for now.

Pierce said after last week’s home loss: “There were definitely some individuals who made business decisions and we will continue to make business decisions.”

The Raiders had rejected trade requests in the offseason for Adams, who enjoyed success with the Packers alongside Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers early in his career.

The Raiders will also be without three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby (ankle) on Sunday.

Without Adams, the Raiders will have to rely on veteran receiver Jakobi Meyers and rookie tight end Brock Bowers in the passing game against Cleveland. Adams and Bowers lead the way with 18 receptions each through the Raiders’ 1-2 start.

“Overall, no one has to be Davante Adams,” Pierce said Friday. “I don’t need another Davante. There’s only one, right? I just need the best version of Jakobi Meyers.

“We’ll see what happens on Sunday, but we feel really positive about giving these guys the last 12 hours and now today and tomorrow to get ready for the game.”

Of note, Eagles receiver AJ Brown will miss his third straight game against the Buccaneers on Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury in practice two days before the Week 2 game.
