SHILOH, Tennessee – One of our local national parks recently released information about its economic impact on the community.

Data shows that tourism at Shiloh National Military Park contributes .9 million to the local economy

In a press release sent out Wednesday morning, Shiloh National Military Park informed the public about the number of visitors and how much money they spent in local communities.

A National Park Service report shows that 372,000 visitors visited Shiloh National Military Park in 2023. These visitors spent $24.9 million in communities near the park. This spending supported 347 jobs and had a total benefit of $29.7 million.

“They’ve identified a number that the community is getting from visitors to the park. This is a part of the economy of this region that is actually stimulating,” said Chris Mekow, ranger at Shiloh Park.

Mekow then talked to us about what is special about the national park in Shiloh and why so many people make it their goal to visit it every year.

“If you have to make the effort to go somewhere like a Shiloh that’s off the beaten path, you’re really going to spend a lot of time appreciating the place. You’re not just coming for a few hours and then leaving,” Mekow said.

Nationwide, 325.5 million visitors spent $26.4 billion in communities near national parks, according to the service report. This spending supported more than 415,000 jobs and contributed to the country’s $55.6 billion economic output.

The Volunteer State ranked 6th among all states in visitor spending. For more information about the park, click here: Here.
