D’Andre Swift showcases his dual-threat ability with a 165-yard performance

After starting the season with just 114 yards in three games, Swift’s total more than tripled on Sunday. He recorded his best performance since September 14, 2023, when he totaled 178 yards for the Eagles in a 34-28 win over the Vikings. Although the start of his Bears career didn’t go according to plan, it was only a matter of time before Swift took over a game. During the challenges of the first three weeks, Swift was unafraid to hold himself accountable in the locker room while firmly believing in his abilities.

“We’re in a business, so it has to be like this every day,” Swift said. “If you don’t hold up your end of the bargain, you have to look in the mirror and do that.

“I know who I am. I know what I can bring to this team. If we don’t succeed, I make it my mission to move on and find other ways to get better.”

The Bears’ offense got off to a sluggish start against Los Angeles, managing just 97 yards in the first half, but Swift still displayed the dual-threat ability that lured the Bears to him as a free agent this spring.

With less than a minute before halftime, Swift made three consecutive plays that took the Bears from the Chicago 41 to the Los Angeles 17. On second-and-2, Swift caught a quick pass over the middle from Caleb Williams, evaded two tackles and gained 27 yards.

On the ensuing play, Williams turned under pressure and found Swift down the right sideline, setting up a 40-yard field goal for Cairo Santos that gave the Bears a 10-6 lead at halftime.

“You just saw ‘Dre get going today in the running and passing game,” receiver DJ Moore said. “Getting him up and running is a big advantage for us. … It opens up everyone else because he’s just as dynamic as he is in the running and passing game. When he comes out in the passing game – sneaks out of the backfield – and he’s wide. “If he gets open on his own, he can cover the distance.

On the Bears’ first possession of the third quarter – which resulted in a touchdown pass to Moore – the fellow Philadelphia native totaled 31 yards, including 11- and 7-yard receptions.

“He can really do anything,” left tackle Braxton Jones said of Swift. “I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do. I just always think it’s nice to have a guy like that and be able to build on what he does – running the ball really well and then catching it really well and getting YAC. “I’m easy with the catches too Proud of him and we’re going to continue to block hard for him and get the ball to him and move him.”
