Dallas Cowboys make Carl Lawson’s signing official and place offensive tackle on the injured list

The Dallas Cowboys officially announced the signing of defensive end Carl Lawson on Monday.

Lawson’s arrival is the latest step in a defensive line that has undergone a series of changes.

Defensive end Sam Williams’ season-ending knee injury on July 28 prompted the Cowboys to find a replacement. Marshawn Kneeland, a second-round pick, was originally slated to start alongside DeMarcus Lawrence.

The Cowboys also worked out three players (Shaka Toney, Al-Quadin Muhammad and Lawson) after Williams’ injury. The team signed Toney and Muhammad in early August and both played in the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

But Toney sustained an injury and was released/injured by the team last week.

In six NFL seasons, Lawson has 27 sacks. Two years ago, he signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Jets. In 23 games, Lawson had seven sacks before being released.

He did not play in the preseason win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, but is expected to begin training with the team this week.

To clear the way for Lawson to join the roster, the organization placed offensive tackle Earl Bostick on the reserve/injured list.
