EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Dallas Cowboys were in the middle of a key defensive situation Thursday when their leader went down.

Linebacker Micah Parsons grabbed his left ankle on a third down play with less than four minutes left as Dallas ultimately led the New York Giants to a 20-15 victory.

Members of the Dallas training staff helped him walk carefully off the field as he struggled to put weight on his left leg. He was later carried into the locker room with his left shoe removed.

Parsons charged at Giants center John Michael Schmitz, who blocked him against Greg Van Roten as the right guard fell to the ground. Parsons lay beneath Van Roten and immediately appeared to be in pain.

Parsons confirmed after the game that he had suffered an ankle injury but could provide few details. He said the X-rays were negative, but added that he was scheduled for an MRI scan in Dallas on Friday.

The Cowboys will next face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5 on “Sunday Night Football.”

Parsons had two tackles (one for loss) during the game. He briefly left the game in the first half with a neck injury after officials forced him to leave following a violent blow he received from his own teammate.

The two-time All-Pro started with six quarterback hits and a sack in the first three games of the season.
