Cowboys’ Micah Parsons will undergo an MRI after injuring his ankle in the game against the Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Micah Parsons will undergo an MRI of his left ankle on Friday after leaving due to an injury with 3:30 minutes left in the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 victory over the New York Giants.

“Right now I just froze it,” said Parsons, sitting at his locker with his left ankle taped. “I know very little. I have an MRI (Friday) and will try to come back next week.”

Parsons said X-rays taken at MetLife Stadium were negative. DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a right foot injury in the third quarter and also did not return, but after the game he said he was fine and that his injury was not related to foot surgeries he had earlier in his career. He will also undergo an MRI on Friday.

Parsons was injured rushing the passer from the middle of the Giants line. He was dealing with center John Michael Schmitz Jr. when guard Greg Van Roten fell on the back of Parsons’ leg. He was attended to by medical staff before limping to the sidelines. Eventually he was taken away by cart to have X-rays taken.

After the game, he rode a golf cart to the team bus.

“He is a great player. Great playmaker,” quarterback Dak Prescott said. “I don’t watch much, but he did a huge run stop right there on one of his last possessions. And honestly, I just hope it’s nothing serious. There aren’t many doubts or negative thoughts. “That’s what’s going through my mind, so I didn’t even want to think something big, and I hope it’s something small. It’s a good mood.”

The Cowboys were generally in good spirits heading into Thursday’s game. They lost two straight home games to the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, in which the defense gave up a total of 464 rushing yards.

The Giants had just 26 yards on 24 carries, but Daniel Jones threw for 281 yards and rookie receiver Malik Nabers had 115 yards on 12 catches before leaving the game due to a concussion.

Prescott threw two touchdown passes in the first half – one to CeeDee Lamb and the other to Rico Dowdle – and Brandon Aubrey made two of three field goal attempts, including a 60-yarder for the second straight game.

“Winning is always a great thing, especially on the road,” said coach Mike McCarthy. “Away wins are the best. You can add another layer to it in division games. So, yes, we feel great about what we’ve accomplished, but I think it’s the fourth week in a row that we realize we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Cowboys will take a 10-day break before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 6, which could aid Parsons’ recovery depending on his diagnosis.

For Prescott, it was his 13th consecutive win against the Giants, making it the second-longest winning streak by a quarterback against an opponent.

But he knows there is a big difference between 2-2 and 1-3.

“Huge, especially when you compare it to the alternative. What that would have looked like was huge,” Prescott said, adding, “Just allowed momentum to build. I’ve played on a bunch of different teams and some of them when you first started out, it just gets hot. That’s what this league is all about, getting the timing right, trusting the process regardless of the results. “
