COS airport warns travelers of delays due to air show

(COLORADO SPRINGS) – Road closures for the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show begin Thursday, August 15, and Colorado Springs Airport (COS Airport) is offering travelers advice on how to avoid traffic delays and missing their flights.

The air show, featuring the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and other aircraft, including a demonstration of the F-22 and C-130, begins the weekend of August 17. Traffic closures may occur starting August 15 due to exercises.

What it’s like to fly with the Blue Angels

For safety reasons, Powers Boulevard from Milton E. Proby Parkway to Fontaine Boulevard will be closed on Thursday, August 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and from Friday, August 16, to Sunday, August 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

During this time, the airport will remain open and operational, but asks travelers to take the circumstances into account and make some changes in order to catch their flight on time.

“Sold out” – What you should know before the Blue Angels’ performance

COS Airport recommends that travelers arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled flight departure. Event traffic will impact travel time to the airport.

To facilitate access to the terminal building, COS Airport recommends that travelers take the left lane on Milton E. Proby Pkwy. as this is easier for them.
