Corey Seager of the Rangers joins exclusive company with home run success against the Yankees

Texas Rangers star Corey Seager put on an impressive performance in the team’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Saturday. With Friday’s game postponed due to inclement weather, the teams played a doubleheader on Saturday. The Yankees won the first game 8-0, but the Rangers bounced back in the second game with a 9-4 victory. Corey Seager hit a home run and accomplished the aforementioned feat in the second game as well, according to Texas Rangers PR on X, formerly Twitter.

“Corey Seager hit his 25th home run of the season in Game 2 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. This is his fourth season with 25+ home runs (2016, 2022-23-24), his third in as many years with Texas. Seager is only the fourth player in TEX history to hit 25+ home runs in each of his first three seasons with the club,” Texas Rangers PR wrote.

It’s safe to say that Seager’s career with the Rangers got off to a good start. In his first season (2022) in Texas, he struggled at times but still managed to hit 33 home runs. In 2023, he managed the exact same number in just 119 games. Seager also posted an excellent 1.013 OPS and finished second in the American League MVP voting. Texas also won the World Series in 2023.

So far in 2024, Seager has hit 25 home runs with an OPS of over .850. He swings the bat well and is doing everything he can to help the Rangers make a push to the postseason.

Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi struggled in the first game on Saturday. The offense didn’t help much in the scoreless loss. But the lineup woke up in the second game.

“It was just a good comeback game for us,” Seager said after the second game, via Bally Sports Southwest. “(Cody) Bradford went out and threw the ball really well, kept us in the game. At the end, we finally got some runs and got the win.”

Until Saturday, Seager had hit 194 career home runs. But none of those home runs had been hit at Yankee Stadium. That changed Saturday, when Seager hit his 195th career home run on the Yankees’ home field.

Of course, Seager spent the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers didn’t travel to New York to play the Yankees on a regular basis, so Seager didn’t get too many opportunities to accomplish that feat.

The move to the American League has given the shortstop more opportunities and he did his job on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s actually pretty cool for me. I grew up as a Yankees fan, a big (Derek) Jeter fan. So to finally be able to hit a home run here was pretty cool.”

Rangers want to gain momentum

The Rangers currently have a disappointing 55-62 record. They will need to get back on track soon as the final stretch approaches. As Texas looks to gain momentum, Seager highlighted the positives of the offense, which played well in the second game on Saturday.

“A lot of our guys hit a lot today,” Seager said. “That’s good for us … You don’t have to be the best every day. It was a good second game for us and hopefully we can build on that.”
