Corbin Carroll grabs a potential 3-run HR before the Giants dump him on the D-backs

Corbin Carroll saved three runs but couldn’t prevent the other seven that the San Francisco Giants scored in the first three innings of their 11-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

To start the second inning, D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt allowed a solo home run and then two Giants to reach the bases before Mike Yastrzemski hit a deep fly ball to center right.

Carroll tracked the ball well, called off center fielder Jake McCarthy and timed his jump to erase San Francisco’s early 4-0 lead.

However, the D-backs were unable to build on Carroll’s incredible play.

In the next inning, San Francisco again quickly put two runners on against Pfaadt, and this time a deep fly ball by Michael Conforto became a three-run home run, regaining the 4-0 lead that Carroll had taken away. After a walk and a groundout, Arizona pulled Pfaadt after just 2.2 innings pitched. Then reliever Blake Walston allowed his own three-run home run to put the Giants up 7-0.

San Francisco scored an additional run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and another in the eighth.

The D-backs only managed six hits and two walks on offense, and were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
