Collier County recognized as best place to retire in Florida

It’s no surprise that Collier County is considered the “best place” to retire. In fact, we’ve lost track of how many times this southwest Florida county, with its beautiful Gulf of Mexico coastline, has appeared on various lists and in numerous rankings.

But every now and then it doesn’t hurt to get a reminder.

A new study from SmartAsset lists the 10 best places to retire in Florida. And guess what? Collier County is on the list! It came in at number 6.

Four criteria were taken into account in the analysis:

  • Tax burden
  • Access to medical care
  • Opportunity for relaxation
  • social activities (senior residences)

The districts that performed best on these criteria also achieved the highest rankings in the study.

Which county in Florida is the best place to retire?

That would be Sumter County, which is located in the central part of Florida and includes the following cities: Bushnell, Wildwood, Lake Panasoffkee, Webster, Center Hill and Coleman.

Here are the key metrics for Sumter County in the analysis:

Tax burden – 14.5%

Medical centers per 1,000 – 102

Leisure centres per 1,000 – 0.2

Senior residences per 1,000 – 0.12

Here are the key metrics for Collier County in the analysis:

Tax burden – 14.5%

Medical centers per 1,000 – 2.09

Leisure centres per 1,000 – 0.65

Senior residences per 1,000 – 0.07
