College Station Middle School’s new motto helps students outside the hallways

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – College Station Middle School is starting the school year with a brand new motto: Connect and Conquer.

The middle school school year began on August 14, and students were welcomed to a campus dedicated to helping them achieve success in the future.

The top priority for teachers at College Station Middle School (CSMS) is to make sure children feel safe and comfortable. When students feel safe, they can work with teachers and parents to navigate the upcoming school year.

“Especially today, in this day and age, they need connection. They need to know that they are being seen,” said CSMS Principal Joshua Rhine. “Part of our mission… Our very first part is that students are valued, and we want to show them that.”

Trynati Green, an eighth-grader at College Station Middle School, told KBTX one of the best lessons she learned at school is to have confidence.

“(I learned) to just be myself, because sometimes trying to fit in and act like other people really doesn’t work,” Trynati said.

Trynati said that in her final year at CSMS, she hoped to help other students learn the same lesson early.

“The older I get, the more things I experience and I get excited,” Trynati explained. “I feel like this year I have a chance to have people look up to me since I’m in eighth grade.”

By providing strategies and practices to teachers, the school hopes to help students in their next level of education.

“We want them to feel (connected) because… Once they feel that trust, we can teach them what we need to teach them and prepare them for the next level,” added Principal Rhine.

By teaching its students fundamental life lessons, College Station Middle School prepares them for their futures beyond the school hallway.
