College football experts’ picks for Week 6

play

UCF Football failed its first big test of the season last week against Colorado. Will it bounce back in a cross-state showdown in Florida?

UCF fell to 3-1 after defeating Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes 48-21 last week. Quarterback KJ Jefferson totaled 360 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions, double his total this season entering the game. Running back RJ Harvey was limited to 77 rushing yards but had 92 yards on four receptions with a touchdown.

The Gators are 2-2 from their bye, with coach Billy Napier still in the hot seat. His most recent plan to bolster the UF offense was a two-quarterback system with Graham Mertz and freshman DJ Lagway. The latter leads the team with 617 passing yards and four touchdowns, although he also threw three interceptions. Top receiver Eugene Wilson III could be back in the lineup as he recovers from knee surgery.

Will UCF turn up the heat under Napier? Here’s what college football experts are predicting and the odds for the game:

Randy Chambers writes: “The Florida Gators have been terrible whenever they play a decent team this season, and they’ve been worst at home. However, for Billy Napier these victories have become a must if he wants to stick around. “Florida had overtime.” UCF didn’t look good on defense last week and the offense struggled to find success against a subpar defense from the Buffaloes in a passing quarterback. For Florida and this coaching staff, it’s about getting me the points.

SI.com: Take control

Reed Gelding writes: “Both defenses are in disarray, which should lend themselves well to two explosive offenses that are each ranked in the top 40 in the country in EPA/Play. The Knights are thriving with their three-headed monster in the running game with Harvey, quarterback.” Meanwhile, KJ Jefferson and fellow running back Peny Boone, sixth in the country in yards per carry, should be capable of scoring drives against the Knights to score who only have three With a bye to prepare, I expect a strong passing game from Florida at home.

Neil Blackmon writes: “In a game that could be a microcosm of the Napier era in Florida, the Gators will score big – but Florida’s run defense will give up more than 350 yards to the Knights as Jefferson wins for the second straight year in The Swamp .”

Chris Lobster writes: “Can Florida stop the run? The Gators haven’t had much success at the national level this year. But if they can do it this week, they will beat the Knights. And I think it will look better in a situation where, as we will say many times this year, Billy Napier is once again a must-see. If the Gators’ defense can look a little better, they should win this game. “
