Cincinnati Reds swept off the field at home, losing to the Royals 8-1

The Cincinnati Reds (60-64) were swept off the field by the Kansas City Royals (58-67), losing 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.

After winning four games in a row, the Reds lost three in a row.

Here are our findings after the game:

Singer stops the Reds’ offense

The Reds’ offense came into the game with only two runs in the series. They continued to struggle on Sunday. Royals starter Brady Singer threw six scoreless innings and recorded six strikeouts.

The Reds had seven hits, three of which came from Santiago Espinal.

They had a key opportunity in the seventh inning when Jonathan India worked a walk with the bases loaded and only one out, but Elly De La Cruz was eliminated on a questionable decision and Spencer Steer was eliminated with momentum.

Abbott’s struggles continue

With Hunter Greene now on the injured list and Nick Lodolo struggling, the Reds needed a strong game from Andrew Abbott. The left-hander’s problems continued on Sunday, however, as he pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits.

In his last six starts for the Reds, he has allowed 22 runs.

The Royals scored four more runs in the two innings against Casey Legumina.

Next

The Reds travel to Toronto to face the Blue Jays in a three-game series beginning at 7:07 a.m. ET.
