With Isiah Pacheco being placed on the injured list, the Chiefs may turn to a familiar face.
According to multiple reports, Kareem Hunt is scheduled to visit the Chiefs on Tuesday, allowing for a possible reunion with the team where he began his career.
Hunt is currently without a team after playing his first two seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs before heading to Cleveland, where he played from 2019 until last year.
The 29-year-old is a far cry from the football he played when he first started, running for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns in his rookie season in 2017.
Hunt was released by the Chiefs in November 2018 when video surfaced showing the running back shoving and kicking a woman, and served an eight-game suspension the following season after signing with Cleveland.
The running back appeared in 91 games – 38 of them as a starter – and achieved 4,436 yards on the ground for 40 touchdowns and 1,890 passing yards for 17 touchdown catches.
News of Hunt’s visit comes after it was announced that Pacheco is expected to miss six to eight weeks due to the broken fibula he suffered during the Week 2 win over the Bengals.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters Monday afternoon about the options Kansas City has at the running back position.
Reid said general manager Brett Veach is “looking at people” in terms of free agents.
“We’ll just see where this goes,” Reid said, according to the Kansas City Star. “But we’re fortunate to have some good people here.”
Rookie Carson Steele is one of those options behind Pacheco, a Rutgers product, and he was involved in Sunday’s win over Cincinnati.
Steele had seven carries for 24 yards and one fumble on Sunday.
Samaje Perine is also another option in defense for the Chiefs since Pacheco is out.
