Vanderbilt threw the biggest curveball into the 2024 CFB playoff discussion with its upset win over Alabama.

Just a week ago, the Crimson Tide were tipped to be potential SEC champions, but now they’re facing a massive drop in the AP Top 25.

Alabama will likely fall out of at least the top 10 due to the magnitude of the loss, and the loss calls into question the program’s consistency under DeBoer.

Alabama isn’t completely out of the 12-team playoff conversation yet, with a handful of top-25 games remaining on the schedule.

The Crimson Tide have a week to recover before visiting the Tennessee Volunteers on October 19th. This will be a monumental battle for the Tide to get back on the national stage.

A win over the Vols would help Bama get back into the SEC title discussion, and the Tide will be the favorite in every game after that.

The 12-team playoffs allow teams some margin for error, and Bama now has that after Saturday’s loss.

There’s even a scenario that a Bama gets into the 12-team field with two losses, losses to Vandy and Tennessee and a win over Georgia.

But for now, all Bama can do is try to recover and get ready to face the South Carolina Gamecocks next Saturday.
