Celoron asks park visitors to avoid playground at Lucille Ball Memorial Park | News, Sports, Jobs

OBSERVER – Photo by Sara Holthouse. The Town of Celoron is asking visitors to Lucille Ball Memorial Park to avoid the newly constructed playground until hard surface can be installed.

CELORON – Following several incidents of park visitors using the unfinished playground at Lucille Ball Memorial Park, the Town of Celoron is asking all visitors not to enter the playground until work is completed.

It has been three to four weeks since the equipment was installed, but a permanent surface has yet to be laid. This surface cannot be laid if the area is constantly disturbed by park visitors.

“It is cordoned off and there are signs,” Said town clerk Shirley Sanfilippo. “They still have to put out gravel and rake it to lay the permanent surface, but if people keep using the playground, they’ll have to keep going in and redoing it.”

The Village has seen both adults and children on the playground and reminds park visitors that the playground is not safe until the permanent surfacing is installed. Once contractors working on the playground install the surfacing, no one will be allowed to use it for at least three to four days to allow it to harden and not be damaged. This damage would require repairs and further delay the opening of the playground. The Village is asking for residents’ help to complete the final installation by not entering the area so the playground can open on time.

“The playground is great and beautiful,” said Sanfilippo. “They plan to lay the hard surface in about a week, assuming people avoid the playground.”
