Céline Dion criticizes “unauthorized” use of “Titanic” song at Trump rally

Excerpt from a video of Céline Dion performing her Oscar-winning song Titanic at yesterday’s Donald Trump and JD Vance rally has gone viral. It also caught the attention of the Grammy-winning singer’s management team and record label Sony Music Entertainment Canada, which issued a statement on Saturday about “the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance and image of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana.”

They clarified that “this use is in no way authorized and Céline Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.”

The team also couldn’t resist pointing out the irony of using a song from a movie about one of the greatest disasters in naval history at a campaign rally.

“…And really, THAT song?” they concluded their statement, echoing the flood of sinking-ship jokes on social media about the music choice. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ team also jumped at the opportunity presented by the viral video of the performance, which you can see below.

This is not the first time “My Heart Will Go On” has been used at a Trump rally. It was used at an event on November 1, 2020 in North Carolina during the closing stages of the presidential campaign, which led to The view The panel giggled the next morning, with moderator Whoopi Goldberg remarking, “The irony is just great.”

Co-funder Sara Haines added: “This doesn’t bode well for anyone.”

The song was also played at a Trump rally in North Carolina in June 2021 and was on the playlist for the MAGA rally with Trump on January 6, 2021 in Washington DC, which preceded the storming of the Capitol.
