Catherine O’Hara narrates the teaser for the first season 2

The first look at season 2 of The Last of Us is finally here.

HBO released a teaser on Thursday for the highly anticipated second installment, guest-starring Catherine O’Hara.

Her role has been kept secret, although she appears to be playing some kind of therapist for Joel, helping him cope with the events of the first season. If that’s the case, she would be playing an entirely new character that doesn’t appear in the game.

“You can’t heal something if you’re not brave enough to say it out loud,” she says. “Say what you’re afraid to say. Say it out loud, no matter what it is. No matter how bad. What did you do?”

The teaser doesn’t reveal much about the second season, but it does give glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina. It also features some iconic images from the game. Check out the teaser above.

HBO released the video to commemorate “Outbreak Day,” the day the Cordyceps virus initially triggered the events The Last of Us. This is the 11th year the franchise has celebrated September 26th.

In Season 2, after five years of peace following the events of Season 1, Joel and Ellie find their collective past catching up with them, bringing them into conflict with each other and into a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.

There is no word yet on a release date, but it is expected to be in the first half of 2025. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann previously hinted to Deadline that the second season will be shorter than the first at just seven episodes, although one of the episodes will be “quite large” in length.

Pascal and Ramsey return along with Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria.

Previously announced new cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.

The Last of Us The script and executive producers are Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Evan Wells.
