CANTON – Households across the city registered for the 2024 Canton Garage Sales last weekend.
From Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, hundreds of bargain hunters roamed the streets of Canton in search of treasures.
The event was organized by Katie Berry, a representative of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and included an online map that shoppers could use to plan routes for their shopping trips.
By Friday morning, 34 sales were listed and by the end of the weekend, the map had been viewed more than 3,000 times.
A steady stream of customers was reported at the St. Lawrence Center for History and Culture. The inviting new garden entrance on Main Street allowed easy access, especially during the Friday farmers market across the street in the Village Park. The History and Culture Center had donated and decommissioned museum items for sale.
Jennie and Jacob Cougler also reported a steady stream on Church Street on Saturday. The Couglers said they have been attending since they combined their apartments and moved into the Church Street house.
“We have two to four of absolutely everything,” Jennie said.
Tim Nolan, also of Church Street, said he had a busy first day and a quiet Saturday.
His main attraction was books on all kinds of topics.
