Caller-Times readers choose this Corpus Christi company for best coffee

Caller-Times readers have cast their votes on which shop in Corpus Christi serves the best coffee.

The community voted and the top 20 were narrowed down to the top 10, then the top 5, and finally the top 3.

After a total of 2,865 votes cast Monday through Thursday, voters chose The Coffee Spot as the best coffee spot. It is located in the HEB Plus at 1145 Waldron Road in the Flour Bluff neighborhood.

Roasted Coffee Shop took second place and Bien Mérité Bakery and Restaurant took third place.

In the final round on Thursday, The Coffee Spot received 1,410 out of 1,609 votes.

The Coffee Spot is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Wednesdays it is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to coffee, the restaurant also serves lemonade, seasonal drinks and cream sodas.

The Coffee Spot is a family business, as Albert Sanchez Sr., his wife Monique, and their three children – Albert Jr., Noah, and Abigail – are all co-owners of the cafe.

The family patriarch said the opening was originally planned for June 2023 and that they are just at the beginning.

“We’ve looked at other HE-Bs and other locations for a second location,” Sanchez said. “Right now we’re working on a mobile truck. Hopefully that will be available in the next few months. We’d love to open a brick-and-mortar store in the future.”

Sanchez said his dream – for which family members call him “crazy” – is to open nine stores. He said he would love for all of his children to have their own store one day.

“We’ve always loved coffee,” Sanchez said of his family. “We fell in love with the idea of opening our own business and the rest is history.”

Sanchez said it was an honor to win the title of “Best Coffee” in the Caller-Times readers’ vote.

“It shows that people like our coffee,” Sanchez said. “Because we’re a family business, we put a lot of emphasis on customer service and building friendships with them. It means a lot to all of us. There are times when people come into HEB just to get a cup of coffee and then leave. We also have HEB customers who get a coffee before they go shopping. There’s a lot of love in every cup.”
