Caitlin Clark breaks Fever rookie points record in win over Wings

Caitlin Clark broke another Indiana Fever record.

He set the franchise’s rookie scoring record, which had been held by Tamika Catchings since 2002.

Clark scored 28 points in the Fever’s 100-93 win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, with her career-high basket coming with 3:13 left in the half when she hit a 3-pointer for her 595th career point.

Former Lynx star Seimone Augustus holds the all-time WNBA record with 744

This was just the latest in a long list of records Clark has broken this season since she was selected first out of Iowa in the WNBA Draft this year.

The year Catchings set the franchise’s rookie record, she was also named WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Clark appears to be on track to earn that award this season as well, averaging 18.4 points per game and shooting over 40 percent.

“You know, when I walked in before the game, there were hundreds of fans lined up. What Caitlin Clark has done for the game is generational,” Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman said during the broadcast. “As a player among others, I just want to thank you, Caitlin Clark. For elevating our game so high. To you and to so many great players.”

Clark’s impact was not lost on those who saw the huge crowds flocking to arenas to see Clark and the Fever play.

Sunday’s game took place in Dallas and the win helped the Fever move their record above .500.

Apparently, Dallas-area sportscaster Tom Gribble, better known as “Scoops Callahan,” even showed up on the trip to Dallas.

Gribble went around asking sportsmen prank questions in the stereotypical 1920s reporter style.

The joke didn’t go down well with Clark and a PR rep quickly asked for another question.
