Buc-ee’s is one step closer to opening a store in Ruston, Louisiana

Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas travel center chain, has cleared a major hurdle in its plan to open a new store in Ruston. Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker says a key meeting is scheduled today in Baton Rouge to discuss the design of the Interstate 20 Tarbutton interchange that will make the project possible.

“The construction alone and all the roads leading to Buc-ee’s have to be planned and approved by the DOTD. That’s what this meeting is about.”

The planned Ruston store will be located near the I-20 corridor. The store is expected to boost the local economy by creating at least 200 jobs and increasing sales tax revenue. Walker says they plan to start construction soon, with construction expected to take 12 to 15 months.

“We’re getting very, very close to the finish line. I mean, this is a huge project. A lot of moving parts. We have a school, of course, Ruston Junior High is at the same intersection. There were maybe a few more obstacles than other places.”

Local officials and residents have largely welcomed Buc-ee’ and see it as a significant development for Ruston. The store is expected to attract visitors from across the region and enhance Ruston’s reputation as a destination. With this latest approval, Buc-ee’s is one step closer to its Louisiana debut.

“We look forward to tomorrow’s meeting and will continue to advance this great project for northern Louisiana and the entire state.”

Ruston and Lafayette are in an unofficial competition to have the first Louisiana Buc-ee’s. Lafayette is expected to open its location in 2025.
