A breakdown of the Allegations and controversies surrounding Armie Hammer

The controversy surrounding Hammer dates back to 2017, but the allegations only came to light in early 2021.

After a series of allegations from former partners, Hammer was dropped by his agency WME and removed from several projects.

The first to come forward was 24-year-old Effie Angelova, who claimed Hammer raped her when they had a brief relationship in 2017. In March 2021, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation into Effie’s claim.

“I thought he was going to kill me,” Effie recalled. She claimed he “slammed her face against a wall multiple times,” causing bruising, and committed other “acts of violence.”

The alleged incident took place on April 24, 2017, in Los Angeles, Effie claimed. “I tried to get away, but he wouldn’t let me,” she claimed. He was married to his now ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers at the time.

Hammer’s legal team attempted to refute Effie’s allegations, saying everything was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and based on mutual participation.”

Subsequently, an explosive series of messages, the authenticity of which has not been verified, came to light. They were allegedly sent to both Angelova and other women and dated between 2016 and 2020.

In the unconfirmed messages, he apparently wrote to one woman that he was “a 100% cannibal” and “would like to drink your blood.” In another, he allegedly asked a woman to “live and obey and be my slave.”

The allegations continued to mount when Hammer’s former partners Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze joined the conversation.

Vucekovich said she and Hammer were together for five months and claimed he said he wanted to “bite” her and suck on her bloody wounds.

“He told me he wanted to break my rib, grill it and eat it,” she claimed.

“He sucks every good thing out of you,” she added. “He did that to me. I gave and gave and gave until it hurt.”

Lorenze claimed he branded her and talked about “consuming” her.

She claimed that Hammer carved the letter “A” into her groin with a sharp knife during sex.

“He said he wanted to enlarge it with a kitchen knife, but then when it started bleeding he started licking it,” she said.

Hammer’s lawyers continued to deny the allegations, while Hammer was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic near Orlando, Florida, for “drug, alcohol and sexual problems.”

Following the alleged abuse crimes, Discovery+ House of the Hammera three-part documentary series that investigates the allegations, including testimony from two of Hammer’s ex-girlfriends, Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, and delves into the actor’s family history.

In 2023, Hammer finally broke his silence and explained that his interest in BDSM stemmed from his sexual abuse as a child.

“For me, that meant that sexuality entered my life in a way that I had no control over,” he told Air Mail journalist James Kirchick. “I was powerless in that situation. I had no agency.”

Although he still denies the rape, he admitted to being an “asshole” during his numerous relationships.

In July 2024, Hammer took part in an interview with Piers Morgan.

In the long face-to-face argument, he denied ever having eaten human flesh and insisted on denying the rape allegations.

Hammer insisted that Effie’s messages represented consensual role-playing: “These messages (were part of) a very intense, very sexually charged affair between two people with similar inclinations and preferences… when you take them out of that context and bring them into the light of day, it doesn’t look too good.”

“None of these people were hurt or upset because I crossed any sexual boundaries.”
