Brian Austin Green encouraged Tori Spelling to join “DWTS” – but her daughter is afraid she will get hurt

Tori Spelling has her eyes fixed on Dancing with the stars for years, but it needed a little push from former Beverly Hills, 90210 Co-Star Brian Austin Green to make things official.

“I just thought, ‘What do you think? Should I do it?'” Spelling, 51, recalls exclusively to We weekly on Wednesday, September 4. “And he says, ‘Absolutely.'”

Although Green, also 51, was not the only one 90210 alum to participate in the reality dance series (Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty everyone showed up), he was Spelling’s first call. (Green was the partner of his current fiancée, Sharna Burgesswhile DWTS Season 30 in 2021.)

“He’s like my best friend,” she said Us from Green, who played her film love interest for ten years. “I didn’t tell anyone.”

Spelling was announced as a cast member of DWTS Season 33 on Wednesday alongside celebrities, including the former Bachelor Joey GraziadeiOlympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and model Brooks Nader.

Spelling, who competes with his partner for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy Pasha Pashkovannounced that she had the chance to DWTS almost two decades ago.

“I think I was offered the first season and it was like a lifelong dream. But I was too scared to say yes,” she confessed. (DWTS Premiere in 2005.)

When asked why now is the perfect time to lace up her dancing shoes, Spelling said this has been her year of “self-discovery.” Spelling added, “So when anything that really scares me, I’m like, ‘Let me try.’ So I try.”

Although Spelling has not yet informed all of her children, DWTS – “It was such a secret,” she said Us – her 16-year-old daughter Stella was in the picture.

“My 16-year-old daughter said, ‘Mommy, don’t hurt yourself. I’m scared you’re going to hurt yourself. So, Mommy, don’t move, don’t do any exercise,'” Spelling said. “I just thought, ‘Great.'”

Spelling shares Stella, son Liam, 17, daughter Hattie, 12, son Finn, 12, and son Beau, 7, with her estranged husband, Dean McDermott(Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott in March, but gave the separation date as June 2023.)

Spelling raved that McDermott supported her efforts in the ballroom.

“He knows about it and has been really supportive,” Spelling said, noting that they are “great co-parents and really good friends.” She added, “I think that’s important.”

Dancing with the stars Season 33 premieres on Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
