Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames confirmed to reporters Thursday that he not only asked New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker to meet him in the parking lot after Winker hit him during Game 1 of the Wild Card matchup between the teams, but that he had actually waited for him after the game.

“I was there (in the parking lot),” Adames told Jon Heyman about it New York Postand added that Winker didn’t show up.

Here is the context of this situation.

Winker hit a two-run triple in the second inning of New York’s 8-4 win in Game 1 of the series on Tuesday. At third base, he began barking at the Brewers, and Adames returned his words.

“He just started yelling right at me,” Adames told Heyman. “I will not give in in the heat of the moment. So we just chirped. I don’t know what he was angry about.”

According to Heyman, Winker – who was a member of the Brewers last season – was reportedly angry that Frankie Montas hit him with a pitch last Friday during a match between the teams, although he declined to discuss the situation after Game 1 .

“I don’t know what was going through his mind, but he just started saying a few things and I said something back,” Adames said told reporters after Game 1. “I don’t know. I think that’s the type of player he is. … I think that’s part of his personality. It was just a little surprise for me, but we don’t support it.”

Winker wasn’t in the lineup for Game 2 but was in the deciding Game 3 on Thursday and was greeted with boos when he stepped to the plate for the first time at the start of Game 2.

Brewers fans and winkers already had a salty relationship. In 2023, he struggled for the team, hitting just .199 in 61 games while missing most of the second half of the season due to a back injury. Still, he was selected for the postseason roster ahead of the more popular Garrett Mitchell, who hit a game-winning two-run home run for the Brewers in the eighth inning of Game 2 on Wednesday night and was booed several times by Milwaukee fans during the 2023 postseason.

He received a similar reception on Thursday.
