Brewers place Blake Perkins on injured list

One day the Milwaukee Brewers will get lucky when it comes to injuries.

However, Monday was not that day.

Brewers lose another outfielder, Blake Perkins is placed on the injured list

Just hours after retrieving reliever Bryan Hudson from the injured list following a two-week absence with an oblique abdominal muscle strain, the Brewers placed outfielder Blake Perkins on the 10-day IL with a left calf strain.

With a record number of young, talented outfield prospects as well as veteran left fielder Christian Yelich, Perkins, who signed as a free agent last November, was not expected to be a starter for Milwaukee.

However, injuries to Garrett Mitchell and Yelich allowed Perkins to play regularly. In 90 games this season, he posted a batting average of .257/.330/.363 with eight doubles, two triples, six home runs and 34 RBIs, along with 17 stolen bases and an OPS of .693.

First baseman Tyler Black was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to replace Perkins on Milwaukee’s active roster.

With Perkins joining Yelich, Mitchell will likely do most of the action in center while Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick cover the corners. That will leave Jake Bauers, who played primarily first base in 2024 but started seven times at left and twice at right this season, to take on the role of fourth outfielder.

Black, meanwhile, gives the Brewers another left-hander. They will face almost exclusively right-handed starting pitchers in the final phase.
