It might be time for college football fans across the country to start paying attention to Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, but his head coach wasn’t at all surprised when he delivered another dominant performance.

“He was relentless,” Boise State coach Spencer Danielson said of his running back after Saturday’s 45-24 win over Washington State, according to Jason Chatraw of the Associated Press. “Talk about a man who gets involved with his team, loves that team and finds a way to score because that’s what the team needs – that’s Ashton. When your best players are your hardest workers, you always have a chance.”

Jeanty ran for a staggering 259 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 10.0 yards per carry – a performance that should put him in the Heisman Trophy conversations.

He also caught the attention of Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane:

Ashton Jeanty is a top 5 NFL runner who happens to play college football

It was another incredible performance for the junior, who also rushed for 267 yards and six touchdowns in the season-opening win over Georgia Southern and then rushed for 192 yards and three scores the following week against Oregon.

He nearly led the Broncos to an upset win over the Ducks, as the Big Ten team needed a fourth-quarter comeback to escape with a 37-34 win.

Jeanty will have his hands full fighting his way into the Heisman Trophy Picture That includes Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and others, but there’s no denying his individual greatness.

I still think about Jeanty striking the Heisman pose in mid-air. Locked up.

And he puts those numbers up against quality competition, as Oregon is a potential national title contender while Washington State was 4-0 heading into Saturday’s game.

The star running back wasted no time on Saturday, setting the tone with a 64-yard touchdown run on the game’s first possession. He also helped decide the game with a 59-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, using a combination of strength and speed to overcome arm tackles and get past the second and third levels of defense.

Boise State is now 3-1 on the season and could play its way into the CFP discussions with the expanded 12-team field.

Jeanty and the Broncos won’t have as many headline games as some of the other Heisman Trophy contenders, but he won’t be able to be ignored if he remains a touchdown machine for the rest of the season.

That’s especially the case if the Broncos are competing for a Mountain West title.
