“The deceased man is believed to be 60-year-old Stanley Kotowski of Massachusetts,” the press release said.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, August 27, to “determine the manner of death and positively identify the deceased.”

However, Kotowski’s family confirmed to WJCL that the remains were his and were found under a house “four doors down” from their rental apartment.

The Massachusetts native was last seen around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 16, in the area of South Sea Pines Drive

An earlier press release stated that Kotowski left the apartment building without any personal items, such as his cell phone or wallet.
