BLM announces sale of oil and gas leases in North Dakota planned for October

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management in the state of Montana-Dakota has announced a public hearing period for an upcoming sale of oil and gas leases in North Dakota in October of this year. Twenty oil and gas properties totaling approximately 3,173 acres are to be released for leasing in the state.

Leasing is the first step in developing federal oil and gas reserves. These sales are subject to the new 16.67% royalty rate under the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress in 2022.

The purpose of the public comment period is to assist the BLM in determining whether the leasing of the parcels in question complies with all relevant laws, policies and land use plans.

The agency completed its investigation of the parcels in April and then conducted a public comment period that ended in June.

The parcels under consideration and instructions for commenting are available on the BLM ePlanning website: https://bit.ly/3Tuf37a.
