CINCINNATI — The Bengals suffered a surprise loss to the Patriots on Sunday in a game that head coach Zac Taylor boiled down to tackles and turnovers, another sloppy, uncoordinated performance from his team to start the season.
It was the NFL’s most unlikely early-season moneyline loss since 2018.
“I just said those two things: tackling and we have to win the battle for possession,” Taylor said of the problems, noting that Cincinnati still has many games ahead of it to turn things around.
Cincinnati scored 10 points and only rushed for 224 yards despite the offense as a whole having a bad day. The defense, meanwhile, allowed another 170 rushing yards and picked up right where it left off last season, except with two turnovers in between.
“The good thing is that we still have 16 games to play, so we certainly didn’t want to go into the game 0-1 down. But I’m confident that the team will get back together,” said Taylor after the defeat.
