Barry County residents affected by the May storms can still get assistance from FEMA here.

CASSVILLE, Missouri – People in Barry County affected by severe storms last May now have a resource center to assist them in their recovery efforts.

Storm damage does not delay start of summer school in Cassville

When we stopped by early Monday morning, 11 people had already used the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s new disaster relief center in Cassville, located in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center on West Street. FEMA set up the center for all homeowners, renters and small business owners in 10 counties affected by storms between May 19 and May 27.

Barry County is the only county in our immediate observation area that is mentioned in the disaster declaration. People have the opportunity to speak to someone in person about available assistance, and it’s not too late if someone hasn’t applied yet.

“The storm is definitely not far away for help. If you had expenses for temporary housing, had to stay in a hotel or had to make repairs to your home, you may be able to get those reimbursed even if your home is fully repaired,” said FEMA spokeswoman Debra Young.

The center is open this week only until Saturday, September 14th.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After that, it will close permanently. However, the deadline to sign up for assistance is September 23. You can sign up by calling 1-800-621-3346 or by visiting disasterassistance.gov.
