Bagels and community support are served daily at the quaint Satellite Beach shop

The sign on the counter reads, “Welcome to Beachside Bagel World: May all who enter as strangers leave as friends” – and owners John Briody and Jerrica Arroyo take their slogan seriously.

Working at the quaint bagel and sandwich shop every day, it’s obvious that this friendly beach community is very important to them.

Brody has owned Beachside Bagel World for more than 16 years. The shop is located at 1301 S. Patrick Drive in Satellite Beach and is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This cozy shop, with the generosity of its owners and comparatively low prices, has proven to be an important part of a beach bar in a close-knit city.

You are on a budget? This place understands

Both high school students and adults love the prices here, which range from $1 for a plain bagel to $5 for a breakfast sandwich with a drink and $10 for giant subs or smoked bagels.

Of the $5 breakfast meals, Briody said, “I refuse to raise prices, especially now … we don’t want people to have to struggle.” Keeping food costs low is easier because Briody does her own shopping, so she wastes little food.

“John always says, ‘I don’t have to do everything, I just have to do enough,'” Arroyo said.

There is a small debate about payment after Your food has arrived, even if it’s a takeaway order. Briody doesn’t believe in taking money until the customer is satisfied with the food and service.

Plants and sea-themed murals cover the walls, giving the shop a homey feel. Briody is there so often you might wonder if he sleeps there.

“Only during hurricanes. In hard times, I can help and thank this city for their support and give back,” he said.

Helping the locals is part of the job

Local schools, sports teams and nearby nonprofits, as well as police officers, city and public service employees, benefit from Bagel World’s food donations every day. From bulk orders to random meal drop-offs at stations, Brody provides food to the community.

“John is a great community partner and goes above and beyond the call of duty for everyone,” said Kimberly Straehla, director of The Haven for Children nursing home.

“We appreciate his support.”
