Award-winning Broadway actor from ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ dies

NEW YORK – Ken Page, the famous Broadway star and voice actor, has died at the age of 70.

The iconic artist, known for his booming baritone voice, died on September 30, according to Playbill. The cause of death was not reported.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Page quickly rose to Broadway fame after appearing as a lion in the original Broadway production of “The Wiz.”

He won a Drama Desk Award for his performance as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls. He appeared in the original cast of “Ain’t Misbehavin'” and also originated the role of Old Deuteronomy in “Cats.”

He preferred live performances, but was also the voice of Oogie Boogie in Tim Burton’s classic stop-motion film The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Danny Elfman, the musician and composer who performed with Page as the singing voice of Jack Skellington and composed the music “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” posted on social media after Page’s death.

“I am still reeling from the terrible news from last night. Ken Page died suddenly. He was the one and only Oggie Boogie Man. He was simply one of the best and most generous people I know. Full of life and full of joy. Talented and more. “Ken, my friend, we will miss you very much,” he said.
