BERKELEY, California. – According to police, an attempted rape occurred at an Amtrak station in Fairfield on Tuesday.
Solano News Net first reported the attack, which occurred at the Fairfield-Vacaville station in Fairfield.
A Fairfield police spokesman said officers were called to the station about 11:19 a.m. for a woman in distress. Officers said a sexual assault was in progress when a security guard from a nearby school intervened and chased the suspect until he caught him near the station tunnel.
“We can confirm that the incident did not occur on board a train, although it did occur at the station,” the police department said.
The suspect, 53-year-old Terrance Royston Sr., was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on sexual assault charges.
The victim and her husband were also attacked by Royston and taken to a local hospital, police said.
Before the incident, Royston had attempted to rob a passenger getting off the train.
