Atlantic Notes: Lysell, Lindholm, Jones, Ullmark

Head coach of the Boston Bruins Jim Montgomery today publicly mentioned one of the team’s young talents. Scott McLaughlin of The Skate Pod shared a quote from Montgomery about Forward Fabian Lysell say: “he has to do something more than he has done if he wants to make it to the Bruins“.

Lysell played 14:56 of the Bruins’ season-ending loss to the New York Rangers on Sunday. The 21-year-old Swede played for Boston as a right winger on the team’s third line and failed to find himself on the scoresheet, failing to register a single shot on goal. The former 21st pick in the 2021 NHL Draft is looking to make the Bruins’ roster this season after appearing in 110 regular-season games for the organization’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

He was productive in the AHL with 29 goals and 87 points in two years in Providence. The main factor working against Lysell is that Boston is once again one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference in the 2024-25 NHL season and their top six forwards are largely set in stone. Lysell is not very flexible in his game, meaning the Bruins don’t have the confidence to put him in the team’s bottom six.

Further notes on the Atlantic:

  • Several new members of the Bruins are nursing minor injuries, including Ty Anderson of 98.5. The Sports Hub reports that the forwards Elias Lindholm And Max Jones are both day-to-day this week and are unlikely to play. Lindholm signed a long-term, seven-year, $54.25 million contract with Boston this summer and is expected to take over the team’s starting minutes at center. Pavel Zacha to the wing. Jones joined the Bruins on a two-year, $2 million contract after going undrafted by the Anaheim Ducks. He is expected to be a physical player that Boston can slot into its bottom six.
  • Former Bruins goalkeeper Linus Ullmark is battling an illness but is not expected to be out long-term. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reports that the Ottawa Senators are cautious with their new goalie, but “he’ll be fine.” The Senators want Ullmark to fill a big hole on the roster this season, as the 2022-23 Vezina Trophy winner posted a .924 save percentage in 130 games for Boston from 2021-2024.
