Heavy rainfall overnight caused significant flooding in parts of Georgia, with Peachtree Creek overflowing in northwest Atlanta, prompting rapid water rescues and concern among residents.

Hanover West Drive, a street lined with houses near the creek, became the focus of flooding. In the morning, the water was up to the level of mailboxes and a car stopped in front of a house, unable to move through the flooded street.

Two families in the area were rescued after calling for help as the water continued to rise. Atlanta Fire & Rescue responders, including rapid water rescue teams, arrived around 10 a.m. and evacuated the families safely and without injuries.

“Some of my residents wanted to be removed because they didn’t feel safe,” said a firefighter at the scene. “If the water rose any further, they feared they wouldn’t be able to get out, especially if there were children involved.”

Although no major injuries were reported, homeowners in the area confirmed that the basements of many homes were flooded. Officials are urging residents to stay off the streets unless absolutely necessary, citing dangerous conditions.

As the community continues to recover, local authorities are urging caution and stressing that further rainfall could worsen flooding in the area.
