Arrest made in connection with July Streator City Park shooting – Shaw Local

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the July 20 shooting at Streator City Park and charged him with multiple crimes. The shooting victim also faces charges.

Tyshawn K. Doyle, 33, of Streator (also listed in Chicago) was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and booked into the La Salle County Jail at 10:34 a.m. Monday.

In La Salle County District Court, Doyle is charged with armed habitual offender, a Class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole, and aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison.

Doyle is expected to appear for a detention hearing, which has been required since the SAFE-T Act eliminated cash bail in Illinois. The tentative hearing is set for Tuesday. However, court records show that Doyle has retained an attorney, Chicago criminal defense attorney Charles Snowden, in a pending case in La Salle County. It is not yet clear if and when Snowden will represent Doyle in the shooting and argue at the detention hearing.

Doyle was targeted as a suspect after Streator police officers responded to a shooting and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

“Officers determined that (Doyle) was involved in an argument with (Jaleel R. Berry) that ended in a shooting,” police said in a Monday news release. “During the investigation, officers recovered the suspect’s vehicle and two handguns.”

The man shot, now identified as Jaleel R. Berry, 32, of Streator, was charged with illegal possession of a weapon, a Class 2 felony that carries a penalty of three to seven years in prison. Berry was not taken into custody Monday.

“The Streator Police Department would like to thank Investigator (Brian) LeBeau, the La Salle County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI, the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police, the Illinois Department of Corrections and the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in this investigation.”
