The 38-year-old actor took to social media on Tuesday, August 27, to share a lengthy video outlining his decision to part with his beloved vehicle.
“I bought this for myself as a Christmas present in 2017,” he said in the Instagram clip. “I’ve loved this truck very much and … taken it on road trips and took it to Carmax for one last road trip. This is because I’m selling my truck. I put $400-$500 worth of gas in it and I can’t afford it.”
The Social network The star, who was accused of cannibalism in 2021 and was at the center of a sexual assault investigation launched by the Los Angeles Police Department that same year, told fans that he is moving to LA with a new set of wheels in tow.

“I’ve been back in LA for a few weeks now,” said Hammer, who is now returning home after his divorce from Elisabeth Kammers will be completed in June 2023, he said. “I have a new car, it’s tiny, it’s a hybrid, and I’ll probably spend about ten dollars a month on gas.”
Hammer explained that he was reluctant to sell the vehicle because it had given him some special memories over the years.
“I took him camping and several times across the country and on long car trips,” he said, adding that his children, daughter Harper, 9, and son Ford, 7, “were not happy about it.” He told the camera, “They said something like, ‘Dad, all our memories are in that truck.'”
Hammer revealed that he has not informed his children of his final decision. “So I haven’t told them yet. But I will tell them and they will be fine, kids are adaptable,” the actor said. “I just keep telling myself that parking will be easier and gas will be cheaper.”
Hammer, who turns 39 on Wednesday, August 28, made headlines around the world in January 2021 when a flood of unconfirmed messages attributed to the actor appeared on social media.
The messages depicted sexual fantasies of cannibalism and rape. Hammer called the allegations “nonsense” at the time. (The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed in June 2023 that it would not pursue sexual assault charges after a two-year investigation.)
In an episode of the “Painful Lessons” podcast that aired June 17, Hammer openly addressed the cannibalism allegations and again denied the behavior. “People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them,” Hammer said during the podcast. “They said, ‘Yeah, the guy ate people.’ So what? What are you talking about? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people. How am I supposed to be a cannibal? It was bizarre.”
Hammer added that the time helped him reflect positively on the controversy and that he now appreciates the experience.
“It’s almost like a neutron bomb exploded in my life,” he said. “It killed me, it killed my ego, it killed all the people around me who I thought were my friends when they weren’t – all those people were gone in a flash. But the buildings were still standing. I’m still here, I’m still healthy and I’m really grateful for that.”
Hammer admitted in July that he had “scratched” his ex Paige Lorenze‘s initials into her lower hip. “There was a scenario that we talked about before. I would basically take a little, tiny dot and just trace the letter ‘A’ – just like the tip of a little knife,” he said in an interview with Piers Morgan which aired on July 19. “It was more like an argument. It’s kind of like when couples get their initials tattooed on each other.”
