Armie Hammer sells his beloved truck after his cannibalism scandal ended his career.
“Since I’ve been back in LA, I’ve put about $400-$500 worth of gas in my truck and I can’t afford it,” the actor said in an Instagram video he shared on Tuesday. “I can’t afford the gas anymore.”
“But you know what? That’s OK,” he continued. “I have a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’ll probably spend $10 a month on gas.”
Hammer, who turns 38 on Wednesday, also explained why it is so difficult for him to get rid of his truck.
“I bought this for myself as a Christmas present in 2017… and I have loved this truck and have taken it camping and across the country and on long road trips several times,” he noted.
He also recalled picking up his children in the truck after they were born and said they would not have been happy if he had sold the car.
Hammer has a 9-year-old daughter, Harper, and a 7-year-old son, Ford, with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers.
The couple divorced in 2020, shortly before Hammer was accused by several women of emotional abuse, manipulation, rape and cannibalism.
The former actor has always denied the allegations and claimed that all encounters were consensual.
The scandal and allegations have hit Hammer’s career hard and pushed him out of Hollywood. He hasn’t appeared in a film since Death on the Nile, which was released in 2022.
In the podcast “Painful Lesson” he described the allegations as “death to his ego and his career.” However, he also revealed that the situation also has positive sides.
“I’m actually at a point now where I’m really grateful for it, because where was I in my life before all these things happened to me,” he explained in June.
“I didn’t feel good. I was never satisfied, I never had enough. I was never in a place where I was happy with myself – where I had self-esteem.”
He added: “But the buildings were still standing. I’m still here, I’m still healthy and I’m really grateful for that.”
In the wake of the allegations, Hammer also entered a 12-step program to treat various addiction problems.
Although there were reports at the time that Robert Downey Jr. had financed his rehab, Hammer denied the rumor in July.
During his appearance on the “Club Random” podcast in July, the “Rebecca” actor revealed that his financial situation was difficult, but reiterated that he was happier than ever.
“You know what I learned from this is that I don’t need (money) because I have never been happier in my entire life than I am now,” he said.
