Apple TV+ has renewed Colin Farrell’s enigmatic drama Sugar for Season 2

Are you ready for more Alien Noir? On Wednesday, Apple TV+ announced a second season renewal for “Sugar,” is the Emmy-nominated, genre-bending sci-fi crime thriller starring Colin Farrellaccordingly The Hollywood Reporter.

The series premiered in April of this year to moderately positive reviews, but gained attention for its wild midseason twist, which reveals that Farrell’s character, a peculiar, classic, cinema-loving private eye from Los Angeles named John Sugar, is – spoiler- Alert – an alien has been sent to Earth to study humans. He is hired to find a missing girl and he gets too close to the case and therefore to people.

In Season 2, Sugar investigates a new missing person case while continuing to search for clues about his missing sister. Season 1 cast members who could potentially return for season 2 include: Kirby, Amy RyanAnd Jason Butler Harnerbut the second season cast has not yet been confirmed other than Ferrell.

The series was created by Mark Protosevichwho will not return for the second season and is its executive producer Simon Kinberg, Audrey ChonFarrell and showrunner Sam Catlin (“Preacher”).

“It’s been incredibly exciting to see how audiences around the world have embraced ‘Sugar,’ and we’re thrilled to be returning for a second season,” executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg said in a statement to THR. “We are so grateful to our partners at Apple for their support, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the brilliant Colin Farrell and of course our viewers. We can’t wait to get John Sugar back on the case.”

“Sugar” received a nomination at the 76th Emmy Awards, “Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour)” for Richard Rutkowski.

Farrell currently stars in the hit HBO limited series The Penguin.
