After months of rumors, Apple will finally unveil its new iPhone 16 series at the It’s Glowtime event today at 10:30 PM IST. The tech giant is also expected to unveil other major products during the event, including a new version of the AirPods and 3 new Apple Watches.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus:
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to retain many of the same design elements as last year, including a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen and an aluminum body. However, a major design change is likely to be the change in camera layout from a diagonal arrangement on the iPhone 15 series to a vertical pill-shaped cutout this year to enable spatial video recording.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will also likely get a significant performance boost thanks to the Apple A18 chipset and a base variant with 8GB of RAM (up from 6GB last year). The new upgrades are designed to help the phones support new Apple Intelligence features.
The standard iPhone models are also expected to receive the Action Button, which was introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro series last year.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max:
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger 6.3-inch displays (up from 6.1 inches) and 6.9-inch displays (up from 6.7 inches), respectively. Rumors suggest that Apple is using a new Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology on the iPhone 16 Pro models, which could result in significantly smaller bezels.
The new iPhone 16 Pro models will likely be powered by the A18 Pro chipset with support for 8GB of RAM. They will also likely get an improved Neural Engine, which is likely a big marketing ploy for Apple to show off its AI capabilities.
The two Pro models will likely get a major camera upgrade, with an additional 48MP ultra-wide lens compared to last year’s 12MP shooter. The iPhone 16 Pro model will also likely rival the Pro Max, with the additional 5x optical zoom of the telephoto lens.
There could also be a new touch-sensitive “capture button” rumored to debut on iPhone 16 Pro variants today. The button will likely function similarly to a DSLR shutter button, allowing users to focus on a subject, zoom in and out, and take photos.
Apple will also likely introduce a new titanium gold color this year, replacing last year’s titanium blue variant.
AirPods 4, Apple Watch SE and more:
Apple is expected to unveil two new variants of the AirPods 4 today at its It’s Glowtime event. The two versions of the AirPods 4 will likely share similar design features and will replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, respectively. The main difference between the entry-level and mid-range AirPods 4 could be active noise cancellation; the mid-range model will include ANC, while the entry-level model will not. The premium variant of the AirPods 4 could also feature a premium case with a speaker and Apple’s Find My. Apple is also expected to launch the Watch SE 3, an updated Watch Series 10, and the Watch Ultra 3 today.
