Anne Hathaway confirms “Princess Diaries 3” on social media: “Miracles happen”

You might be thinking, “Shut up!” But it’s officially true: The Princess Diaries franchise is finally growing.

Anne Hathaway posted a funny video clip on her verified Instagram on Friday in which she was seen lounging outdoors before hitting number one with her hand. The video then cut to a younger Hathaway in the now-classic 2001 film “The Princess Diaries” uttering the iconic phrase “A princess?!” Keep your mouth shut!”

After the Oscar winner held up two fingers, the clip cut to her co-star Julie Andrews and repeated the saying “shut up” from her 2004 sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.”

Then Hathaway held up three fingers with a smile and said “shut up” himself. After laughing and blowing a kiss to the camera, she shared a screenshot of a news report announcing that “The Princess Diaries 3” was currently in the works at Disney, with “Joyride” director Adele Lim attached.

“Miracles do happen,” Hathaway wrote in the caption, before adding “Back to Genovia,” as a reference to the fictional kingdom from the film series. She ended her message with “The fairytale continues” and a flaming heart emoji.

“The Princess Diaries” tells the story of Mia Thermopolis, played by Hathaway, a clueless teenager who discovers that she is the heir to the throne. Andrews portrayed Queen Clarice Renaldi, Mia’s estranged grandmother and ruler of Genovia, in the films.

While a third entry in the beloved millennial franchise – a full 20 years after the last film – is welcome news, it’s not the only highly anticipated sequel involving Hathaway.

According to IMDb, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in pre-production with Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci starring.

The plot for this sequel will apparently follow Streep’s ruthless magazine editor Miranda Priestly as she battles her former assistant and now rival CEO Emily Charlton (Blunt) “as they compete for advertising revenue amid declining print media while Miranda nears retirement.”
