Andrew Garfield says he and Florence Pugh didn’t hear a ‘cut’ while filming ‘We Live in Time’ sex scene: ‘We just keep going’

“At a certain point we both telepathically say to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a long take.'”

Future filmmakers take note: Andrew Garfield reveals why it’s important to shout “Cut!”

During a recent appearance on Friday at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, the actor recalled an incident where he and his We live in time Co-star Florence Pugh filmed a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” together and had to maintain on-screen chemistry for an extended period of time because they never heard anyone yell “cut.”

“The scene becomes more passionate as we choreograph it,” Garfield explained in video footage of the event posted on social media. “And we kind of get into it and go a little further than we should because we’ve never heard ‘Cut’ and it feels safe.” And we just say, ‘Okay, we’ll just move on to the next step, we’ll let it move on and just keep going.'”

Garfield then played back to the crowd what he saw when he finally caught a glimpse of what was happening outside the scene. “I look up and in the corner is Stuart and our boom operator,” he said before turning his back to the crowd. “Stuart has the camera at his side and he’s turned into the wall.”
