Anchois drilling off the coast of Morocco aims to expand gas resources

The Stena Forth A drillship has started drilling the Anchois East (Anchois-3) well for Energean’s Anchois gas field project offshore Morocco.

According to partner Chariot, the drilling and flow testing work is expected to take about two months.

This is a multi-target well; an initial pilot hole will be drilled to evaluate the potential of the Anchois Footwall deposit in an undrilled fault block east of the main field. The partnership is targeting a potential resource of 170 Bcf in the main O sand.

A side-strike will then be constructed to traverse and further evaluate proven gas sands in the eastern part of the field’s main fault block (estimated 2C resource of 637 Bcf).

Next, the drilling will advance into the deeper Anchois North Flank showing, which offers an additional 213 Bcf 2U resource, and also de-risk the nearby Anchois South Flank showing (2U resource estimated at 372 Bcf).

Finally, Stena Forth will conduct a flow test on certain gas sands to investigate reservoir and well productivity. The well will then be abandoned for use as a potential future production area.

Adonis Pouroulis, CEO of Chariot, said: “We see significant upside potential that could increase the resource base to over 1 trillion cubic feet and we look forward to making a final investment decision as soon as possible if successful.”
