After a commercial vehicle collided with an overpass, the northbound lanes on I-95 near Airport Road have partially reopened

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – The northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Airport Road/Duval Road exit ramp were partially reopened Tuesday evening following an accident.

The exit ramp to Airport Road remains closed, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. It is unclear how long this area will be closed.

Police also closed traffic under I-95 at Max Leggett Parkway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a commercial vehicle crashed into the overpass around 3:30 p.m., raising doubts about the structural integrity of the overpass.

Florida Department of Transportation bridge inspectors assessed the damage to ensure motorists could safely return to the road.

The roads will be reopened once FDOT confirms the infrastructure is safe. FDOT said this is standard procedure for such incidents.

Northbound and southbound traffic on I-95 was diverted to other exits, but as of 5:30 p.m. the southbound lanes and the Airport Road exit were reopened.

According to the Jacksonville Fire Department, one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area or seek alternative routes.
