A weekly list of highlights from Portland’s Permitting & Development Division’s review activities over the past week.

The proposal calls for a change of use of approximately 15,500 square feet in an existing 17,569 square foot building to a child care center. The use of the remaining building space is to remain unchanged. The proposal calls for converting a portion of the western edge of the existing parking lot into a permeable playground to serve the child care center. The proposal includes minor modifications to the exterior of the existing building to add windows and doors.

The plans call for the construction of a new two-storey five-family house and a new two-storey six-family house on vacant, adjacent lots at the northwest corner of North Vancouver Avenue and North Skidmore Street.

The plans call for a design review for five signs on the north facade. The proposal calls for a change in sign size.

The proposal calls for the installation of an exterior wall sign with LED lighting that would be connected to the existing electrical circuit for a non-contributing building in the Alphabet Historic District.

There is a grocery store with a gas station on the existing site. The owner has bought the single-family home to the west and wants to redevelop the site. The existing grocery store building and the residential building are to be demolished, the properties combined, and a new, larger grocery store built on the site.

The project calls for removal of identified hazardous materials, demolition of all existing buildings including basements and foundations, removal of interior paving and landscaping, and return of all utilities to the public right of way. Currently, no new buildings or developments are planned on the site (on all three lots) in the near future. A new permanent security fence and manual vehicle access gates are provided. The Stormwater Management Manual will not be applied to this project. No stormwater management will be provided. Existing on-site drainage patterns will be protected.

The project is a new acoustic testing facility at the University of Oregon on leased land at Terminal 2 of the Port of Portland.

The TriMet Columbia Operations Facility project includes demolition of existing structures, new grading, paving and construction of a new bus operations campus that will include fueling and washing facilities, operations and maintenance buildings, a bus storage facility, employee parking and associated utilities, stormwater management and landscaping.
