According to AAA, gasoline prices in Michigan have dropped 10 cents since last week

According to Monday’s AAA gasoline report, gasoline prices in Michigan fell 10 cents from last week, continuing a decline in prices since last year.

At $3.58 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, Michigan drivers are paying an average of 10 cents less than a week ago, 5 cents less than last month and 25 cents less than the same time in 2023, AAA officials said.

That means filling up 15 gallons of gas costs an average of $54, about $4 less than a year ago.

“Michigan drivers are seeing lower prices at the pump,” said Gary Bubar, spokesman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “Lower gasoline demand combined with higher oil prices could lead to flat or slowly rising pump prices.”

On average, the highest gasoline prices in Michigan were in Ann Arbor at $3.68, Jackson at $3.64, and Detroit at $3.63. The cheapest were in Flint at $3.46, Marquette at $3.48, and Saginaw at $3.53.

According to GasBuddy’s price reports Monday morning, the cheapest gas price in Metro Detroit was $3.09 per gallon.

Average unleaded gasoline prices in Metro Detroit were $3.63 on Saturday, $3.69 last week, and $3.81 a year ago. The lowest price in the last year was $2.94 and the highest was $3.88. The record price was $5.31, a price hit in June 2022.

The price of a barrel of crude oil rose $2.03 to close at $75.23 on Wednesday, AAA reported, citing reports from the US Energy Information Administration. Crude oil inventories fell by 3.7 million barrels compared to the previous week. US crude oil inventories are currently about 6 percent below the five-year average for this time of year at 429.3 million barrels.
