A balanced catalogue awaits you at the Texas Yearling Sale

The Texas Thoroughbred Association will hold its annual Summer Yearling Sale on August 26th at Lonely Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. Sales begin at 10 a.m. CT.

This year’s sale catalog includes 207 yearlings that will be available for viewing on August 24 and 25. Among them are 10 horses from a Three Feathers Farm auction and 48 horses bred in Texas, 91 in Louisiana, 32 in Arkansas and 18 in Oklahoma.

Some of the most notable sales listings include:

  • Hip 7, a colt by The Deal out of Flashy Prize, making the stallion the half-brother of the multiple Grade 1 stakes winner and millionaire Free like a girl Paul Pruett’s Oakridge Farm is giving the colt on consignment.
  • Hip 13 is a colt from a young father Volatile out of the mare Malibu Moon Funny Moon who won the 2009 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) and earned $530,900. The colt is on consignment from Channon Farm.
  • Hip 181 is a filly Aurelius Maximus which is also commissioned by Channon Farm. The filly is out of the stakes-placed City Zip winner City Gone Wild. Aurelius Maximus is the sire of Secret Belief who sold for $75,000 at the 2023 TTA Summer Yearling Sale and has already won two Black Type races this year.

“We have a balanced catalogue this year,” said sales manager Foster Bridewell. “A racer can come from anywhere and potential buyers will have access to a variety of stallions and mares at the upcoming sale who are quality producers.”

Bridewell thanks the Texas TTA Board of Directors for supporting this sale by creating stakes opportunities for sale graduates. Those races include the $150,000 Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity, with divisions for mares and stallions and geldings; and for the past two years, 3-year-old sale graduates have been able to compete in the $100,000 TTA Derby or Oaks. Secret Faith won the TTA Futurity on July 13, collecting $90,000 for the win.

Jeff Hooper, chairman and CEO of Highlander Training Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas, said the TTA yearling sale has become a reliable source of successful racehorses and pinhook candidates. The farm has 23 yearlings entered for this year’s sale.

“We have sold yearlings for $15,000 to $100,000 and will have several from proven stallions in the upcoming sale, including Mr Speaker and Competitive Edge,” Hooper said. “The TTA sale continues to offer quality yearlings that are gaining exposure in Texas and other regions. Additionally, pinhookers have noticed the Texas sale and have done well here. Graduates have some excellent stakes opportunities here in Texas, coupled with plenty of restricted stakes offerings in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.”

Highlander sold the top seller of this 2022 sale, a $100,000 Too much bling Filly named Too much Kiki who has won five of 10 starts and earned nearly $258,000 for owner Mansfield Racing and trainer Bret Calhoun. She won the Texas Stallion Pan Zareta Division Stakes at Lone Star Park last year and has won or placed six of seven starts this year.
