Chase Young needed one game to break through for the New Orleans Saints

Some may have wondered if the Chase Young experiment would work for the New Orleans Saints.

Let’s just say the trend is going in the right direction.

Young made his Saints debut during the season-opening loss to the Carolina Panthers, and during that 47-10 loss, he applied twice the pressure compared to his teammates.

Bobby Kownack of NFL.com stated, “Chase Young generated six pressures in his New Orleans debut, the most on the team – twice as many as the Saints’ next closest pass rusher.”

Here’s a funny story: According to Pro Football Reference, Young was never cited for more than 25 pressure situations in a season.

According to NFL Next Gen’s count, he has already played six games and still needs to surpass his previous career high by at least 16 games.

Either way, the second pick of the 2020 draft was a gamble for the Saints after he was split between two teams last year and didn’t blow anyone away, earning a one-year contract on the market and landing on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list in July.

Even though this success only came against the weaker Panthers, the Saints must hope that this is a sign of things to come, because Cam Jordan and the others could certainly use the help in attacking the opposing passers over the course of a 17-game season.
