Bargain hunter delighted to discover a Hermes Birkin for $9.99 in a second-hand store … but after buying it she gets a nasty shock

A seasoned bargain hunter’s “Eureka!” moment quickly turned to disappointment when she realized her $9.99 used Hermès Birkin was a fake.

Ashlee, a popular Canadian thrift shopper who goes by @msfili on TikTok, posted a video last month of herself rummaging through bags at a local thrift store.

As she continued to look, the experienced negotiator noticed a red leather bag that looked very familiar to her.

Upon closer inspection, Ashlee realized she had found a Hermes Birkin with gold hardware for less than $10.

“It’s a Hermès. It has a small stain on the front, but it’s not a big deal,” she tells viewers.

The second-hand dealer has previously also found bags by Louis Vuitton and Chanel in various bargain shops.

But while Ashlee was delighted with her latest find, TikTokers began to express doubts about the authenticity of the “pure leather” bag.

“I think it’s a great copy,” commented one viewer.

And another added: “If it were true, it would be a stroke of luck.”

A TikToker also made an observation, saying, “It’s not a Kelly and not even a good reputation, it has two handles,” referring to the vintage Hermes Kelly bag.

“Birkin wants to be fake,” joked another.

One user also joked: “Canal Street Original!”

To her great horror, Ashlee soon discovered that the bag was actually a copy of the original.

“Unfortunately, this bag turned out to be a fake. It was made of real leather and felt high quality.”

“But I have found real Louis Vuitton and Chanel bags in the second-hand store,” she told Newsweek.

The Birkin is considered one of the most luxurious bags in the world and cannot be freely purchased in a Hermès store.

Over the years, shoppers have revealed that they need to build a purchase history with the brand in order to be “offered” a Birkin or a Kelly – and only then be able to purchase the bag.

The bag is available in different colors, of which the orange-red is one of the rarest.
